If you like to travel to see the beauty of nature all around the world and like to walk and hike, then looking for the best mountaineering places is going to be the best for you.

Sitting at the beach isn’t going to cut it for some vacation-takers. You may be a seasoned hiker or just a beginner at walks that loves the outdoors. But either way, there are some really stunning parts of the world, with some amazing views, and challenging hikes to choose from.

If you’re not sure what to pack for each destination, then make sure that you check on the climate of the place and look at sites like climbthatrock.com so you have the best gear to help you to have the best (and safest) trip. Here are some of the top places to visit.

Mont Blanc, France

Any budding mountaineer needs to have Mont Blanc ticked off their list; it is a mountain trip that everyone needs to cross off their bucket list. The peak itself is one of the highest in Europe, so you do need a certain level of fitness before going. But it is pretty steady so can be a good destination for the less seasoned mountaineers.

Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

There are some organised groups for hikes up Mount Kilimanjaro as it is a popular spot to visit. With a guide, it can take around five days to reach the summit, with lodges or tents along the way.

You could just aim to do half of it yourself if not with a guide, simply because due to the altitude, it can be quite gruelling, and the last little bit, at nearly 6000 m high, can be too much for some.

Matterhorn, Switzerland

The traditional looking mountain with the triangular shape is what the Matterhorn looks like. And as such, it makes it a great destination for hikers and walkers, if not for just the photographs of it.

It is a pretty steady climb and is fairly small, with it being around nine hours to get to the peak (with no breaks). So definitely for the fit amongst you unless you plan to camp along the way.

Toubkal, Morocco

If you are more of a walker and a beginner and mountaineering, then climbing Toubkal in Morocco is a good place to start, as it is much more of a walk, rather than a steep climb. It is often a two-day thing, with a walk from the village taking an hour or so, then up to the mountain for around five hours, before you get to lodges that you can stay in.

Then back home the next day. It is a pretty straightforward route, but there are guides available from places like toubkalguide.com/ if you’d rather go along with someone else.

There are so many other places that would be good that it is hard to choose just a few here. But there is something for everyone and something for all levels of ability. Where will you choose first?
