One of the newest additions to the Durham bar scene is the Butterfly Room. Situated in the Westgate quarter of this historic city it is a vibrant lounge with a great mixology menu. In amongst the chain bars and eateries, this fresh new lounge offers a cool vibe and relaxed atmosphere.
Minimalist design with a hint of femininity; the lounge lends itself easily to a great venue for meeting up. A single foliage wall in green with an abundance of pink florals is a striking feature adorned with pink neon social butterfly signage. Exposed brick adds a more industrial feel to the white and wood grained bar and tables. With a selection of booth style seating in luxurious teal, high stool bar tables and ample floor space, this is a great bar for mixing. An airy yet intimate atmosphere the lounge will hopefully become a popular choice for a great night out.
The champagne, wine & cocktail list at the Butterfly Room has an expansive selection. With a wide range of vodka and gin-based options and a few rum potions thrown in for good measure. Cocktails are priced at the usual end of a city centre venue; between £8 to £10. The wine and champagne list is plentiful to offer a selection for all tastes and pockets. The staff are attentive and cocktails are served with professional bartender flair. My cocktail of choice for the evening was a Classic Porn Star Martini and I wasn’t disappointed.
Caterpillars to butterflies
The Butterfly Room is comfortable and classy without being pretentious. An ambient and inviting lounge that can cater for private parties and events. It’s a venue that appeals to a mixed clientele and as a slightly older ‘party-goer’ I felt suitably comfortable in the environment. The Butterfly Room doesn’t currently serve food but a little butterfly tells me a pizza oven is on its way!
I would thoroughly recommend that if you are in and about Durham the Butterfly Room is a great place for cocktails or a catch-up over a couple of glasses of wine with friends.
