It’s been a couple of months since I was last at No28, a fabulous bar and eatery in the centre of Newcastle. So an invitation to Meat:Stack serving up the burgers at No28 was well received.

If you are not familiar with the bar then you are missing an absolute treat. If you are visiting Newcastle you really must look it up and pop in. Billy Bootleggers the underground club below No28 is also a great haunt with regular live music. As a complete aside, if you do go to Billy Bootleggers you must try the apple pie moonshine.
Meat:Stack Newcastle
No28 is a great place for all ages. When people describe bars as eclectic they really should be describing the decor of this wonderful little bar in Nelson Street. Don’t be put off by the ‘dive’ style retro decor. Not a single item of furniture matches but it all just does. It all just adds to the ambience. This is simply a great place to be the drinks are terrific and they serve the best burgers.

The team are great and so welcoming, I have a real soft spot for Lottie, she is so warm and a great hostess.
Described by the Chronicle’s Secret Diner as THE best burger I have always agreed, and have been a regular customer for some time now. However this evening I was invited along for the re-launch of what is now the Meat:Stack, serving up the food in the bar. Having eaten here on several occasions I was looking forward to the evening and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

The food is exceptionally good. The menu only has a small selection of burgers, fries and wings but let me tell you, that this is the absolute beauty of the menu. Each and every dish is honed to perfection and that is why they are easily the best burgers in Newcastle. Added to that they are ridiculously good value. Burgers are £7/£8. With a selection of fries from £3. You can also grab burger, fries & wings on a £10 combo deal.

Our evening had been organised by the lovely Cheish (marketing guru & fellow prosecco lover) Along with the obligatory prosecco we sampled a couple of the new cocktails;
Port of Call, a lovely twist on the classic this cocktail contained a vanilla rum which added a robust fruity sweetness to this particular drink.

Medicine Man was probably my least favourite. A long drink full of Jäger and very medicinal tasting this one didn’t do it for me at all.
The final cocktail of the evening was the Jungle Bird. Dark & light rum blended in a short drink this was my favourite of the evening and a lovely twist on the Tiki bird.

The food arrived and words cannot describe how delicious the burgers and fries were. Whatever the secret recipe is, it is an absolute winner. I certainly make no claims to be any sort of connoisseur but theses are seriously the best burgers Newcastle has to offer. I will just leave you with a couple of the photos so you can make your own mind up!
If you are looking for a relaxed and comfortable evening with a tasty burger, great drinks and ambience then you can’t go far wrong with choosing No28. It’s certainly my favourite pick for a really chilled evening.
